Came across this short article in July's issue of SHAPE mag and it says that Otsuka, a Japanese company specialising in nutraceutical foods, surveyed 750 Singaporeans across age groups, incomes, occupations and education levels just to find out just how happy are we, really? My comments after each discovery.

They found out that:

1) Money cant buy happiness but the highest earners ($8k and above) scored tops in their levels of joy, satisfaction and health. On the flip side, they are also the most stressed.

This is quite natural. They are the happiest coz they got money to spend. And the reason y they got money to spend coz they earn alot and the reason y they earn a lot because they are of higher positions in their companies hence higher responsibilities hence higher stress lor. Its related.

2) Professionals, managers, executives and businessman claim to have the most joyful and least stressful lives. But they are also the least satisfied of the lot.

I wonder how you can be most joyful yet least satisfied? Doesnt make sense. But...reflecting on it. Yah we are least satisfied coz we always want more what. More money, higher status, higher pay. But perhaps most joyful coz we have less stress? Some pple beg to differ.

3) The happiest people work in the transport, distribution and logistics industries. Conversely, those in the arts and entertainment scene scored the lowest.

Happiest people coz they no need to think? Just move boxes, drive routinely etc? Those in the arts (not much prospect in Singapore?) and entertainment (sounds like celebrities) are the least happy coz they are always in the limelight so there is a stress to look good all the time so cant eat sinful food (which makes u happy) and have to go on strict diet and exercise and always surround by beautiful people so they are stressed coz they think they are not gd looking enough and all the unhealthy competition on who is prettier, sexier etc. People sleeping with one another, smoking, taking drugs, no privacy coz of paparazzi (not that we have alot in sg) etc...so sad!

4) Education certificates dont determine the happiness level of Singaporeans. Secondary, polytechnic, ITE and university graduates notched similar scores on the Happiness Index.

Coz they are schooling, no work stress. Wait till they come to work then they know. then see point 1-3.
