My colleague once posted this question in her msn nick some time ago. Today some things happened that made me reflect on this question again, what do you value? What is important in life? Money, career, family, friends, love, religon, status, reputation, looks? What is it that makes you happy? What is it that makes you statisfied? What is it that makes you complete?

All humans like to feel accepted. Acceptance can do you good or just bring harm to your life. Some youth do certain things just to be accepted by their peers. These certain things can be awful like stealing, smoking or taking drugs. Others want to be so badly accepted by their friends or colleagues that they think too much such that it affects their mental health. Always consciously aware of their behaviour or checking to see if anyone is talking bad about them. Overthinking and overreacting. They are suspicious when one or two are gathered together and talking very softly to each other. They jump to conclusions when they overheard their name being mentioned in someone else's conversation. Basically they just think too much. Which brought me to the question again, what do you value?

Is peer acceptance so important in your life? Does it matter that much what others think or say about you? You do your things, they do theirs. As long as you are not doing anything against your conscience, why must you be so worried over what others think? They are free to say or do what they want. Its their life. You have yours. You cant stop them from thinking the way they do or saying the things they said. Some things may be said or thought out of jealousy, envy or whatever possible reason. Really. If you are doing anything bad, why worry? The bible said, love thy neighbour and thy enemies. Just be good to everyone around you including to those who hate you for one reason or another. Good begets good, what goes around comes around. You will be rewarded by God when you do good and also punished if you sin. Do not carry out the punishment for others yourself. Only God can do that, and he does it in his time. Time will tell, everything will be out when the time comes. Why worry so much now? Just live your life as you should by following Christ's path. Be happy as this moment passes by and will not come back as we speak. Why waste your time on silly matters? Is this really what you value? Dont waste your life away.

For others, career and status are very important in their lives. They can do any despicable or unscrupulous thing to get what they want. They do not care about what others think or what others say. They are full of confidence and determination to reach their goal. Status is important to them. They need to be recognised, they need to be in control. These people are normally bosses. They do well because of what they are made of, what they value - their career/status. Of course I am not saying that all bosses are unscrupulous or despicable. There are others who are generally nice and friendly. But you do have some "boss" quality in you that brought you where you are today if you are the boss. However, is this what you really value? Your career and status? How about friends and family and goodness? As in, Godly ways. Time will tell, soon you will come to realise what is really important in your life and then you will see that what you have done so far is so unChristian-like. You will recieve your own punishment in different ways and then you will realise. By that time, it will be too late. Why wait for punishment to come when you can avoid it? Start living your life now as you should in Christ's ways. I am not saying that by living your life in Christ's ways means you cant be the boss. No. Is how you become the boss and stay as the boss. Is how you treat your subordinates and your counterparts. Is how you deal with a situation at work. Is how you plan and strategise your future plans for the company. Is on your behaviour on how you treat others. Once you realise that you should be more Christian like in your ways then you realise that what you value is not your career or your status but is your religon. Is God. Dont fret about things that may be taken away from you as He can do that as and when he deems fit. Instead be blessed by what He has already given you. Which is so much more than you deserved.

Let me ask you this question again: What do you really value?

For me, God is my all. He gives me everything that I need and He completes and statisfies me. However I need to be constantly reminded of this fact as time and again, I will fall back into the worldy ways and values. He will reward me when I am good and punish me when I am bad. He will protect me from evil and love me for me. So whatever I do, I must look to God as he is what I value most in life.
